Women spend over £100k on make up in a lifetime... and would rather dump their boyfriend than go barefaced
It will come as no surprise to the women who despair at the rising cost of cosmetics.
With their clever marketing ploys and promises of youth, big beauty firms have women in their grip.
And as a new study shows, this addiction to cosmetics does not come cheap. Figures reveal that women fork out a staggering £100,000 on cosmetics over their a lifetime, according to a new study.
The sum equates to shelling out £40 a week, or £2,000 a year between the ages of 16 and 65 on products women are convinced will make them look prettier.
The obsession doesn’t stop at spending either. A worrying 57 per cent of women would rather break up with their boyfriend then go without make up and, in Birmingham where the most extreme make up addicts were to be found, two thirds of women surveyed said they would rather buy make up than go on a dinner date.
The figures showed that the average woman's cosmetic collection is worth an impressive £512, while the 10 percent who are happy to spend more admit their love of make up has seen their collection grow to be worth an eye-watering £700.
And the most expensive thing of all? It is not the make up, but the make up bag itself. According to the study, the make up bag is often the priciest piece in a collection, with over a third of the 2,000 British women polled saying their make-up bag was worth over £75.
